BAHURA LIGPO and HIGHWAY ACCESS: 5 minute boat ride from Portulano Resort. CONDITIONS: Generally calm but can have fierce currents when tide changes. AVERAGE DEPTH: 90ft (27m) A deep dive not recommended for novices because of a difficult entry. The descent is in the blue where there is no reference to the reef since it is visible only at about 50-60ft 15-18m. The top of the attoll starts at 80-90. NITROX is most ideal to give enough time to wait out for pelagics. There is a school of resident chevron barracudas which I have missed only twice in ten dives here. You can wait at corners of the atoll for large dogtooth or yellowfin tunas that feed on fusiliers. Huge and colorful fan corals deck the attoll. We often see Eagle Rays, sometimes one or two crosses the attoll, or we see groups swimming against the current .Best siting is a school of 9 eagle rays. We have seen a school of 4 footer yellow tail barracudas several times. With the right timing, this site rivals a Tubbataha dive. Nurse sharks have also been spotted as well as a great hammerhead at the highway. |
